1960 Journey starts form here..

As the ‘sixties dawned, British high streets flourished, supermarkets barely existed and there was little traffic on the roads.

Most British families holidayed at the seaside with long-haul flights available to only the wealthy few.

After wartime independence, women returned to domestic duties or were obliged to work in frequently poorly paid jobs.

School children wore uniforms, had short hair, deferred to authority and could legally be beaten.

With largely empty streets, children living in towns and cities had far greater freedom to explore and to play than they do today.

An absence of childprotection laws meant some youngsters were put at risk for public entertainment.
